Brenda Jaeger has taught art at Pacific Northern Academy for the last
ten years. The salmon sculpture represents contributions from each child,
teacher and staff member of Pacific Northern Academy, a total of 139
people.
The salmon sculpture
depicts two children, a boy and a girl, joyfully poised to jump into
the vast sea of learning. The scales on the fish
are made of copper foil sheeting of an individual fish drawn by each
person. Embossing, piercing and sewing with wire were some of the techniques
used to create the fish scales. A copper wave with the words “vision,
courage and integrity” flows up from the top surface of the salmon.
A tiny child’s face smiles out from its mouth. This was a project
enjoyed by all!
