Rex and Lisa Good discovered they made a great collaboative team in
the arts very early in their marriage. Over the last 17 years, they
have enjoyed converting many ideas into artistic creations, including
photography, stained glass and mixed media, and also including song
writing collaborations and performance (Lisa has been performing musically
all her life - Rex is a more recent performer). Until now, their artistic
endeavors have been presented as gifts, donated for fundraising auctions,
or simply created for their own enjoyment.
The concept of their Wild Salmon on Parade design is a fish camouflaged
amidst an urban environment. The body is covered in mirrors to make
it blend in with its surroundings, while still being flashy and beautiful.
There are also small iridescent fish embedded in the all-glass design,
easily unnoticed unless one looks closely. Blending in and then standing
out are both appearances that wild salmon in the ocean and rivers display
at different times: sometimes shiny and sleek, a bright flash in the
water, other times invisible, blending into the surroundings so all
one sees is a riffle or a shadow.
Rex is currently a Technician, and has worked in various capacities
for 15 years, with the Odom Corporation by day, and he's an innovative
thinker and designer in his shop at home on evenings and weekends.
Lisa recently received a Bachelor's degree with Honors in Human Services
from UAA and is an Employment Security Specialist for the Alaska Dept.
of Labor by day and a guitarist/singer by night.
One quick funny note: when Rex was purchasing more of the tiny mirrors
used in the piece, the sales clerk asked, "What are you going
to use all these little mirrors for?"
Without hesitation, Rex replied, "I'm really vain, but in a small
way."
